John's Wood is Forever

Welcome to my web site.  Here you will find John and my adventures living in the backwoods of Montana.  John retired from the State of California, the 1st of July 2003.  July 2nd, we moved all our belongings, cat (Cowboy) and new Golden Retriever (Moose) to Hamilton, Montana where my Grandmother lives; an hour south of Missoula.  We then put most of our belongings in storage and moved to my Grandparents hunting cabin, an hour and 30 minutes from Hamilton.

Currently, we have no running water, no electricity, and certainly no indoor plumbing!  We are a half hour's drive to our mailbox, which we don't think we'll frequent anyway.  Our plans are to install a pump in our well that has never been used, add on a bathroom to the cabin (the bathtub is already in the wood pile!), add some solar energy, and fix the place up a bit without spending much money!  We hope to have the outside ready by winter, but with 6-7 cords of wood needed for the winter (according to our mining neighbors a mile down the road), we hope we have enough energy left over to work on the cabin!  And...we have a new puppy to train too!
